Apoocalypse 2016

Michael's wake-up cry was a little different this morning so I got in quicker without getting breakfast ready and everything. I was greeted by a sight that shall haunt me until I can thoroughly embarrass Michael with the photos...

Michael had removed his PJs and diaper and thrown them out of his crib. Michael and his crib were smeared with a thick layer of fecal matter. I didn't even stop to take a picture, I grabbed Michael and as...gingerly as possible carried him to the bathtub for his first, second, and third baths of the day. The water was cold by the time we were done so the last bath was a quick one.

Fortunately he was happy to sit in his pen and play with his toys while I spent the next hour and a half with Lysol wipes scrubbing his crib clean and throwing away the soiled mattress sheet. After an abrasive, cold shower for myself, Michael finally got breakfast and things were back to normal. I vowed never to use button on PJs again but then an old friend on Facebook just told me to put them on backwards...elegantly simple and brilliant. :)

Hopefully "Apoocalypse 2016" is an appropriate name for this event. If we have any others then it won't work and I'll have to change it to something like "Turdicane Allison" followed by "Turdicane Bruce", "Turdicane Carol" and so on...

Only 2.5 years to update...

 Michael just learned how to snap his fingers. He's loving Kindergarten and started going in-person about a month ago. The remote learning due to the Covid pandemic was interesting. It was fun to watch him engage in class but it's nice that he's able to go in-person now and he likes that much better.

Potty Training????????

So we've had Michael's toilet in the bathroom for a bit now and I've been sitting him on it before his bath just for familiarization. Over the past couple of weeks he started to be getting the idea so I started giving him bubbles in his bath whenever he peed in his toilet. Now, for the past few days, he doesn't want me to hold him on the toilet and he visibly tries to use it so I think, once the words start coming, potty training (knock on wood) shouldn't be too challenging. He's just got to be able to tell us when he needs to go and it's off to the races. I'm excited. He has been saying "bubble" for the past few days, largely associated with his expectation for getting them in his bath now that he at least tries to use the toilet every time he takes a bath...I was only giving him bubbles when he actually peed but it got so obvious that he was trying that I didn't want to effectively punish him just because he was all dried up... :P He...

Funniest frustrating little person ever!

Michael is already way sharper than me and super funny...when he's not being completely impossible. After his nap yesterday I randomly offered him a shake (a treat he doesn't get very often) and he said, "and some fruit snacks?" (a treat he gets even less often). I said no to the fruits snacks but continued offering him the shake at intervals during the ensuing hour long meltdown that followed. When he was done he was done. Came out, asked politely for his shake and we continued with the day as if nothing had happened. I started a chart a few days ago so he can visualize when he loses privileges like nap and bedtime books and playtime in the bath. So far it seems to be helping him put things in perspective and helping me have something to do other than yell at him. I had a note in Google to remind me to start a "Learning Science with Michael" youtube channel on his third birthday. I'm not quite sure he's ready but I'm going to start combing...
